Organize Your Life - Free Yourself From Clutter & Find More Personal Time

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Organization is a fundamental key to success, and an area that I do very well with sometimes, and not so good at others. I think many people probably fall into this same trap. This is why there are so many books on organization. I try to keep on top of these books to see what is good, what isn't, and to continually keep myself motivated to stay organized.

The most recent organization book I've read is "Organize Your Life: Free Yourself From Clutter & Find More Personal Time" by Ronni Eisenberg with Kate Kelly. My first impression of this book is that I enjoyed it. It was well organized, (pun intended) and had a lot of very practical advice for regaining control of your life if you seem to have lost it, or just maintaining that control if the overwhelming surplus of clutter and time consuming activities has you on the brink of losing it.

The book contains five parts: 1. Make Time: Planning and Priorities; 2. Make Time Around the House: 3. Household Storage to Holiday Planning in Half the Time; 4. Make Time at the Office: From the Paper Burden to Everything Electronic; and 5. Make Time: You and Your Family. These five parts are broken into twenty chapters, with part 5 being only chapter 20. These chapters contain a lot of good, solid, information regarding organization and time management. Much of the information is similar to what you find in many other time management and organization books. There really is only so much you can do to organize.

So even if there isn't a lot of "new" information, I still enjoyed the book as a quick read full of practical advice. Some of the book was more relevant to my situation than other parts, but that is the case with many texts. If you don't have any organization books, this book is a good place to start. If you have read a lot of them, this book is still a nice addition, and if nothing more will reinforce tips and suggestions you should be implementing and will motivate you to "Get it Done."

Feeling at Home - Defining Who You Are & How You Want to Live

What does "home" mean to you?

I was thinking about the meaning of home this afternoon as I was running errands and listening to Michael Buble's Home on the radio. For the song, home is a person, someone he loves. But to me, it is more than that.

Home is a place where I can be embraced by comfort, warmth, safety and security. A place that nurtures family, but also supports my individuality.

The Power of Feeling at Home

What I love about this book is her beautiful writing about how powerful it is to feel at home and how important it is to create that in your own home. I am presenting a lot of her thoughts here so that you can get a feel for her way of thinking.

Creating home may be accomplished as you decorate but it is about far, far more than window treatments and furniture placement.

Defining Who You Are

In the first chapter, Stoddard begins by telling a story about her daughter's sense of home in Paris, where she now lives. The story leads to an exercise she suggests for the readers...

What are the ten best words you could use to define yourself? Take a few minutes to compose your own list and then, I will share mine....

Okay, here's my confession. I did this twice. I loved the ten words, but loved the ten phrases even better...

My Ten Words: healing, spiritual, nature, writing, singing, family, reader, orange, brown, tea.

My Ten Phrases:

meant to heal

contemplative spirituality

connection to nature

write at home

singing my heart out

close family

voracious reader

orange with brown

dresses and long skirts

tea and meditation

What's your list of descriptive words or phrases?

But even more important is how it feels to see yourself in words that way. For me, it feels deeply affirming. Like a celebration of who I am. Does it feel that way to you?

That is how it should feel to be at home!

Keep a Home Journal

The author suggests that as you read the book, you keep a notebook and fill it with what you learn and discover about yourself and what feels important to create in your home. The book contains other great exercises for defining yourself and questions along the way to help you explore what is meaningful to you.

"Think of this book as a place to discover your own personal truth. By getting in tune and in touch with your truths, you can create a home that echoes your true spirit." -Alexandra Stoddard, Feeling at Home: Defining Who You Are and How You Want to Live

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - An Easy Household Guide - Book Review

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I was very excited to review Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - An Easy Household Guide by UK author, Nicky Scott. Because my husband and I wrote Trash Talk, which is a similar guide written for North Americans, I was very interested to learn how individuals in the UK are dealing with reducing waste.

With the 96-page book, the author attempts to provide a guide for people to follow; "in a world of confusing messages" where overwhelming environmental problems weigh down our hearts, Nicky hopes to encourage readers with positive information. Cute little illustrations by Axel Scheffler accompany most of the pages, adding a little touch of humor.

One of the first things Nicky discusses is the importance of refusing to purchase over-packaged items - in fact he states it is the main focus of the book, and it does briefly discusses avoiding disposables, things that cannot be recycled and those that are made from all virgin materials. Whereas the book seems to concentrate on how to reuse or recycle existing trash, it also comments on seeing the reuse, repair or recycle potential for products we are considering buying. He also suggests taking advantage of re-fill retailers (i.e. in Canada: Body Shop, Sampson Soaps, etc) and bulk outlets (grocery stores, bulk products at hair salons, etc). The author mentions that maintenance increases the likely hood of reuse and stressed donations and private sales. Tips are included on ways to make the recycle system run more smoothly and interesting UK statistics.

Chapter three hosts 59 pages of an extensive A-Z guide for items that are commonly found in waste bins. What to do with Fluorescent and CFL bulbs, funeral alternatives to consider, what the various numbers on plastics mean -it's all covered here in this tidy book. I found the information about all the different kinds of batteries, particularly the button-cell variety (watch, camera, calculator, etc), quite interesting. Interestingly, I never considered donating furniture too battered for reuse to upholsterer businesses and classes, where they may wish to reuse the frame to make new furniture.

Readers may find that some of the information is repetitive and Chapter four seems to reiterate what the book is trying to say. I enjoyed chapter five, which discusses the future of zero waste and cleaner waste (less toxic or greenhouse gas producing), very much. The book closes with an excellent resource section that offers roughly two-dozen organizations along with their contact information and lists about thirty books that are certain to make the environmentalist in you drool with anticipation.

Nicky Scott, Chairperson for the National Community Composting Network (CCN) in the UK, is the author of three small books (roughly 4 x 6 inches) dealing with waste reduction and has appeared in two videos about composting. His interest began while working at a compost business as a young man, and the passion grew while he studied at the UK's leading organic research organization, The Henry Doubleday Research Association. As initiator and Secretary of one of the first community composting projects, which continues to created jobs, and the head of the newsletter for the CCN organization - he is a busy man. Between all this, he squeezes in time to run workshops and give lectures. In his spare time, Nicky is a musician and artist.

Raised Bed Vegetable Gardening Part 2

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

If you have been considering raised bed vegetable gardening, then you are not alone. In fact, many people are starting to grow these vegetable gardens. The popularity has spread because of how many advantages one will have when choosing to use a raised bed. Not only that, but you can build a container in any shape you wish and can use this gardening system no matter where you live. You can make your vegetable garden as simple or complex as you wish. Perhaps the best thing about raised bed vegetable gardening is you can choose which soil you want to use. This allows your vegetables to stay healthy and produce year round. Below are a few more advantages to building a raised bed vegetable garden.

With a raised bed vegetable garden everything stays in place. You do not have to worry about certain plants or vegetables growing wildly within your garden. You will also be able to pick and cut over grown plants with much ease. No more bending over to pull weeds out of the ground and fight with deep plant roots. With your raised bed garden, weeds and plants can be removed easily. This is a major reason why raised bed vegetable gardening has become so popular.

Another great thing about having is the ability to have no concerns with draining. You will be able to see the water draining from your plants out of the bottom of your container. In order to ensure proper drainage however, you must make sure your container has small holes about an inch from the bottom. Another great tip is to place rocks under the soil to help drain the water. No longer will you have to drag a heavy hose all around your yard, because you can strategically place your raised bed garden close to a water source. Are you starting to see the beauty in this type of vegetable gardening?

You do not have to worry about pets or children messing up your produce. You can build your bed high enough to avoid any interactions with dogs or kids who may harm your plants. Another great precaution is to line the bottom of your bed with netting so you can also stop burrowing pets.

If you are thinking about raised bed vegetable gardening then you have an exciting road ahead. It takes time and money to get started, but the advantages of building a raised bed are too great to overlook.

You Can Do It, the flagship offering from Delmer's Deals, is a Do It Yourself(DIY) book geared towards women. The unique aspect of the book is that two men wrote the book but then had their friend who is a woman rewrite it so that it would be woman to woman. It guides women through home repairs that don't require special tools or many hours of work. Other topics covered are how to negotiate with a contractor, car mechanic and car salesman among many others. The primary focus of the book is to save money for the woman who reads it. It does this by doing it yourself rather than hiring someone to do if for you or if you have to have hire someone you will not get taken advantage of. Until now, it has been only available in the local area but it is now available nationwide.

Delmer's Deals is a Pittsburgh based company. It is comprised of William Delmer and Patrick Laird. For the book, they used their over 20 years combined experience in contracting and construction trades. They have found that women who have used their book have saved money from feedback they have received. One woman related how during a car inspection the station tried to charge her seven hundred dollars in unnecessary work. Another woman had a plumbing leak under her sink, the plumber tried to over charge her by two hundred dollars. These are just two examples of how valuable this book is.

People Trust in the Health Benefits of Herbs

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Aside from the fact that Herbs add more flavor to food, there are recognized health benefits that herbs could give the body. Since ancient times, it's been demonstrated that herbs genuinely have health benefits and as contemporary medicines were not available in those times, herbs were regarded as a good remedy for every health problem

There are many health benefits that have been demonstrated by herbs and nowadays, doctors and other investigators are seeking more ways to utilize herbs for our wellness.

Power Of The Herbs

Herbs like garlic, pau d'arco, goldenseal, and licorice are acknowledged to yield health benefits when treating fungus or other skin irritations. The health benefits of herbs equivalent to these are unexcelled because many manufacturers of natural medicines are now producing creams and shampoos that are produced from these to help in minimizing skin irritation.

The health benefits of herbs like chamomile assists in soothing the stomach, calming the nerves, helping in inducing sleep, and easing cold symptoms to prevent fever. Besides, there are certain herbs such as ginger that helps in improving the blood circulation in our bodies, regulates blood glucose, represses menstrual cramps, and like the chamomile; it assists in alleviating cold and flu symptoms.

Although other people might just use cinnamon when cooking or baking apple pies and cinnamon rolls, it could also be included in the list of health benefits of herbs as it assists in improving circulation, relieves cold symptoms, alleviates stomach upsets, menstrual cramps, and regulates blood glucose and insulin.

Popularity Of Herbs In The Marketplace

Because many trust in the health benefits of herbs, many people are resorting more to alternate or natural medicine when it concerns curing their ill health*. Because of this, more manufacturers are also developing products that incorporate natural herbs to give further options to the people. Products like herbal teas that alleges to aid regulate your gastrointestinal system or is said that could be used as a dietary supplement, shampoos and lotions that helps in aiding skin irritations, and products like herbal medicines in liquid form or as pills are being sold in the marketplace today.

You could find these alternate medicines and herbal products in health stores like GNC and LivingWell which are located in popular department stores or strip malls. In addition, you could find them on the internet and some may receive an even bigger deal, marketing them at a lower price with free shipping.

Brian E. Hill has been a keen gardener ever since he "helped" his father and grandfather when he was just six. Since then he has done vegetable gardening extensively, and is at present concentrating on container gardening, as he and his wife are moving to an apartment where he hopes to continue gardening in his retirement. Great Books - How-To Wisdom Resides in Books

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Learning how to do things is the way we all grow and develop as humans. Using guidebooks helps shorten the learning curve of acquiring knowledge.

With the amount of information available today, you can learn and do just about anything- from how to build a deck to finding your dream home in another country.

How-to books teach you with the printed word, pictures, graphs and give you the option to return to the page before if your memory is failing you in a moment of need.

Shopping for these printed knowledge volumes is easy and available in a number of ways for purchase. Checking through thrift stores, garage sales, and online for new and used books is a great way to start. Some projects are timeless and even nostalgic and for this one of the old how to books will be filled with information in the old ways and sometimes the best ways to complete a project.

Be sure to choose wisely for your project. If updated information and material is available with the progress of technology and information, you will need to buy a newer book. With updated information you will find the healthiest, easiest and best way to grow plants, paint, or do your own medical research.

Information is continually changing and improving. As the books and learning tools become available you can begin a new project with the right look for you or the best way to construct something new in your life. Book stores carry the newest books available and if they do not have one you need they are willing to special order in most any category.

Some topics are classics. How to sing, or make soap, or darn a sock can be learned from older books.

If you are looking for lessons on car repair and maintenance, check with your local auto parts dealer or online for information about your model of vehicle. You will need to know the model, make, year and many time engine size and design. Once you find the book you need you can order it online or place a special order at the parts department.

For information regarding gardening, plants, herbs and sustainable living some book stores will have a special section. Updated information and old ways are now combined in many newer books. You can choose from larger farming income projects to specialized growing techniques for a certain flower such as roses or iris.

Books for herbal medicine are written for the local grower for raising herbs in pots or small gardening areas to promote good health. You can learn how to mix herbs for best results or what each herb by itself is good for. Herbs can be used to fight headaches, stomach problems and improve general health.

These DIY (do it yourself) books are a great way to learn something new. Don't be afraid to teach yourself. You have many teachers who have gone before you and now impart their wisdom in the form of how-to books.

Great books and how to do things are what author Mr. Davey enjoys. He uses his how-to knowledge to find fine things at fine prices online.

Home Made Power Plant - A Real Review

Why I Decided to Buy Home Made Power Plant

I had financial problems because of a failed stock investment, and I was searching for a way to save on everything, starting with electrical energy. In fact, I have many home appliances including the dishwasher, the washing machine and a personal computer that cost me nearly $350 every month.

So I went online, surfing the web for any information on saving on electricity bills and I found this manual ( Home Made Power Plant ) explaining how to save up to 80% on electricity bills utilizing solar panels.

I decided to gave a look at it and I bought the manual.

What is it about
Home Made Power Plant is an ebook written to help home owners to significantly decrease their electricity cost. It's a 115 pages ebook, and when I ordered it, I received also 3 bonus:
Bonus #1- "Biodiesel- An alternative solution for your car and home"
Bonus #2 - "Best Tricks & Tips To Save Energy"
Bonus #3 - "Free Updates For The Next 10 Years"

Frank Patrick, the creator of Home Made Power Plant, said that those bonus were available just the day of my order, but they are still now available, so no need to worry about that: I think they will be available for many months.

I took one and a half day to build the solar panel following the Home Made Solar Plant's plan. It wasn't such easy to build, but it wasn't difficult. Well, think that I'm an alternative energy researcher, a scientist, not an engineer! However, after less than 2 days, I was able to make my solar panel work.

My personal opinion
Now, at the time of writing, my solar panel has been working for more than one month and it saved me about 135 dollars in electricity this month. To be really honest, I did not save 80% this month, as the Home Made Power Plant's website says, but something more like 55%.

I think that the product is worth its cost, because with the little investment of less than 50 dollars, I was able to save more than 130 $ just the first month. 130 dollars a month aren't big bucks, but you must remember that you will save more or less these figures not just the first month after the installation, but for all the following years to come.

Dave M. Richardson recently published a website about solar panels for homes at http://www.squidoo.com/top-solar-panels-for-homes - where he personally gives tips and tricks for building the best homemade solar panel with less than $200 dollars. If you have any questions, feel free to contact him.

Emilie Barnes was the author of 60 books at the time this was written. Creative Home Organizer explores the many aspects of managing a home. Her books are always organized and concise, which makes for easy reading and reference.

The chapters are broken up into bullet-points with loads of helpful hints, checklists, ideas, and suggestions. Each chapter begins with a pertinent scripture, and there are many inspirational quotes throughout to encourage you as you read and implement the ideas.

Here are a few tips from some of the chapters.

1. Organizing

Emilie believes that being a homemaker, full or part time, is the greatest profession in the world. To be successful at this honorable position, you need to be organized in your home and in your life. Tackling housework in only 15 minutes a day will yield very effective results in a short amount of time. Taking small steps keeps you from feeling overwhelmed by your tasks.

Give yourself time to change your old habits. She reminds us of the 21-day rule of breaking an old habit or starting a new one. She also advises us to make lists, set goals, and plan for success.

2. Food Preparation

Preparing and cooking nutritious meals is an act of love for our family. Families who eat together have better nutrition. Family mealtimes can foster closeness, warmth, and communication with our husbands and children.

Emilie has many tips for cooking, shopping frugally, using leftovers, and much more in this chapter.

3. The Kitchen

The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home, and should be an enjoyable place. In order to make it a pleasant place to work in, we need it to be organized, clean, and have the proper tools. If it is pleasant to work in, we will be more motivated to spend time there making delicious meals and having fellowship with our family members.

4. Storage

A neat idea mentioned here is to give away one item every day. She suggests many different types of organizers and storage systems.

5. Cleaning

"Don't put it down, put it away." This chapter includes cleaning supply lists, homemade cleaners, and cleaning checklists for daily, weekly, monthly, and so on.

6. The Garage

Start the massive garage cleaning job with three garbage bags labeled "put away, throw away, and give away." Get your family together to plan and make a list of things that need to be done.

7. The Laundry

Laundry is easier when your equipment is close by, and it is one job that can be delegated to all family members who are old enough to help. She gives advice on stain removal, bleaching, dryer safety, and hard water.

8. The Automobile

"Plan, plan, plan!" If we don't plan regular automobile care, we can run into trouble. She gives maintenance checklists, emergency organization lists, travel supplies, and more.

9. Finances

"We earn little by little, and we save little by little." Having a proper attitude towards money helps us to have control over it. We don't want to be slaves to money, or to creditors. She has tips on saving, debt reduction, and managing money.

10. Time Savings

"Time management is not just keeping busy, but is finding God's focus for you - choosing a direction and moving ahead to accomplish your goals." Managing your time takes planning and effort. To be good time managers we must set goals, and plan the steps to reach those goals.

11. Raising Children

We should strive to raise children who are godly, responsible, know how to solve problems, and do not make excuses as to why they can't perform a task. We need to be committed to spending the time and effort to bring our children up well. Recognize and take advantage of opportunities to teach them about God.

The remaining chapters cover the topics of good health, sewing and crafts, gardening, beauty, moving, wardrobe, and safety.

I think that women of any age can learn new ideas and gain encouragement from this uplifting book. Whether you are just starting on your journey of keeping house, or are a grandmother with years of experience, there will be something for you here. It is quick to read, but you probably won't sit and read through from beginning to end. You may be more likely to choose the chapters in the order of your individual home and family management needs.

House Plants: A Guide For The Horticulturally Challenged

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Have you never met a house plant you couldn't kill? Do indoor plants wither in your presence? Do you long to add some greenery to your home but don't know where to start?

If so, you'll want to pick up a copy of House Plants: A Primer For A Dumb Thumb by Nancy Roca Laden. Laden shares what she learned as the owner of a San Francisco plant store and from leading classes about growing plants in her shop. She knows how important it is to add leafy green accents to your home in the city.

The guide begins with a discussion of basic plant care. The author covers watering and watering problems, light and the problems of too much or too little sun, temperature and how to get the temperature right for your particular plants, and feeding and soil enhancement. The author's tone is low key and friendly -- you're sure not to get intimidated by horticulture with this book at your side.

Are you wondering which indoor house plants are easiest to raise? Looking for those hardy choices that will thrive even when you're in charge? Happily the book includes a list of house plants that are easy and accommodating. The entries are illustrated with photographs and line drawings. Each entry is peppered with helpful hints, comments from the author's experience, and fun facts about the different species.

There is also a list of plants with special needs. Nancy describes those specimens that need extra moisture, those that like a lot of sun and dry soil, and a few with miscellaneous sensitivities and requirements.

You'll also get your questions answered about repotting -- when to do it, how to do it, and how to tell when you need to do it. And while you're repotting you'll want to think about the best soil to use. There's advice on preparing good soil mixes, fertilizing, and good drainage.

Even indoor plants can be attacked by pests. Laden discusses the most common bugs and how best to treat infested plants with pesticides and with natural remedies.

The book ends with a potpourri section with tips on a variety of miscellaneous topics. Issues covered include how to pinch, prune and shape; using eggshells in your pots; creating terrariums; propagating new plants from old; growing avocados and other items from kitchen cast-offs; and lastly a section on talking to your plants.

You just might gain a green thumb by the time you're done with this thorough and helpful volume. Your house plants will thank you.

Just like green plants add appealing green accents to your home, scarves for women can add colorful accents to your wardrobe. Cheap scarves are an easy way to complement an outfit.

This book includes 82 of the most ornamental herbs for the avid herbal gardener. The author, Jo Ann Gardner, is an avid gardener and lover of flowers and herbs and this comes through very clearly in her writing of her experiences in her own gardening. The book is well laid-out and easy to read full of illustrations, photographs and crammed full of information geared toward starting a functional and beautiful herbal garden.

The introductory chapters give great information on how to grow, sow, propagate and maintain either seeds or seedlings. Included is another chapter on landscaping ideas to help the reader to layout and design the herbal garden before even getting started.

Each section includes a nice overview and history of the plant, the plant family and specifics needed for propagation including: soil, sun, zones, size, and seasons. The photographs and illustrations included help not only get a visual of the eventual garden design, but are also useful for the identification of already existing herbs in the back yard.

Although, the herbs included are categorized by Latin name, there is also an index in the back to help cross-index and identify plants by their more common names. Another helpful index gives a quick reference for all the herbs included for which seasons they bloom best.

Herbs in Bloom (Timber Press, Inc. ISBN 0-88192-698-1) is an awesome find for the avid herbalist-gardener who wants not only to have their own source of fresh herbs but have a truly gorgeous herbal garden to either show off for the neighbors or secretly relish in the quiet of the back yard.

Review of Anastasia (You're Gonna Like This)

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Good afternoon folks.

It is hard to know where to begin with Anastasia. The book is a very fun read, but the central question throughout is: Is Anastasia real?

The Ringing Cedars series consists of nine books written by a Russian businessman. The series documents his encounters with a very unique and gifted girl in a remote forested area of Russia. What the businessman, Vladimir Megre, discovers is that the stunningly beautiful Anastasia was raised in the woods, and is able to communicate with and issue orders to animals, and this is only the beginning.

Anastasia is exceptionally intelligent, and despite having been raised in such an isolated Siberian location, has very informed and thoughtful opinions on our modern world. In addition to being a stone cold fox, Anastasia does not not wear clothes very much, and never sits down to eat proper meals, but snacks throughout the day on berries or nuts brought to her by her animal minions.

Strange? Yes. Unbelievable? Maybe, but I don't really care. What I care about most is if there is any usable information in the book that can contribute to a more sustainable human species.

Now I have to admit something here. I have always been drawn to the strange and fantastical stories. I love how these stories stretch your horizons and ask you go against the grain of common wisdom. Frankly common wisdom is too common sometimes. As I have gotten older my attraction to stories like this for entertainment's sake has not diminished, but I have seen weird before. I have been there and done that. What I want to know is what I can take away from it. The translator describes the series as a cross between Star Wars and the Bible, so what are the profound nuggets we can take away from The Word According To Yoda?

I believe there are many. More than anything else Anastasia shows us what we can become once we free ourselves from ourselves. I am fully convinced that this planet is the insane asylum of the galaxy, and the doctors have pretty much let the patients run wild to cure themselves, or not. As a species we are struggling with all of our might to do it, but we still think it is an acceptable plan to get dressed in funny green outfits and go and kill total strangers. We still allow our dreams to die inside of us while we work in boring jobs in boring corporations because everyone else is doing the same thing. If anything Anastasia's story highlights these facts by sheer contrast.

It may be stretch to think that going to the nearest forest, shucking your clothes and engaging in a telepathic conversation with the first squirrel you see is a recipe of happiness for most of us, but I do not think that is the moral of this story.

We live on a living being, Earth, who has provided us with everything we have. Everything. This incredible planet has sublime and breathtaking life systems we are only beginning to comprehend. Our technological gizmos are toys by comparison. When our creativity and inventiveness work in line with these systems, we touch infinity, but when we ignore nature we tend to run into a few snags, like for instance being strapped to a dirty, messy, polluting, inefficient, antiquated energy delivery system, or cataclysmic wars to control aforementioned antiquated energy system. (i.e. World War I, World War II, The Gulf War, the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, ad nauseum...).

This book was written in Russian, and has inspired millions of Russians to to leave the city and establish eco-villages in the Motherland's vast hinterland. Small, private gardens account for 54% of that nation's agricultural output, and this is on 7% of the total land used for agricultural purposes. Food independence is extremely efficient and very possible, and as I stated in my square foot gardening review, I think it is the greenest thing you can do.

One of the more interesting passages relays that seeds can be charged to restore health and taste fantastic to a particular human if that human places the seeds in his mouth for at least nine minutes. I do not know if this has any validity, but I will in a few months. I planted my veggies yesterday, and darned if I didn't give every one of those seeds a saliva soaking. Like I said before, I don't care if it's weird. I just care if it works.

The mystery of whether Anastasia is real or not enhances the allure of the book, but it is ultimately an aside. As fact or fiction, Anastasia is a valid and timely call for all of us to detach ourselves from the corporate teat, reconnect with the rhythms of nature and enjoy self sufficiency.

Container Vegetable Gardening Part 2

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Previously, when people were suggested that they could do gardening inside their homes, they were taking this suggestion with a pinch of salt. But, now, this concept is a proven one because there are thousands, if not millions, of people who do this container vegetable gardening and reap immense benefits. Due to the extraordinary "vertical" growth that has been triggered by construction of condos and apartments, this type of gardening is gaining more and more popularity.

But, for doing this container vegetable gardening, you need the required tools, seeds, etc. apart from having the right type of containers. You should acquire sufficient basic knowledge of this so that your gardening experience will be easy and also you will find it useful.

The main benefit of this gardening is that it is highly flexible. There is no prescribed size of containers. You can even use containers that you already have available. But, planning is very important to do this gardening. Otherwise, instead of being an enjoyable hobby, it may turn out to be an arduous task.

You should first choose the right space inside your house. The space should have enough ventilation and sunlight because plants will not grow well if these two aspects are not taken care of.

Procuring the right containers is another important aspect you should focus on. You cannot have the same type of container for all the plants. Certain plants may require a broad space because their roots may spread widely. A few other plants may require vines to grow. These aspects should be taken into account while procuring your containers.

You can grow green onions, herbs and parsley in containers. Eggplant, peppers, tomatoes and a host of other plants can also be grown in container vegetable gardening. But, you should study the nature of the plant and its needs before you embark upon growing them in your garden.

You can buy the seeds from the local retailer or can germinate them at your home. Germinating the seeds at home is a great experience. They can be germinated in containers like a pot, baking pan or any shallow vessel. You do not need a perfect container for doing this. The only point you should ensure is to have a nutrient-rich compound so that germination takes place as desired. You should have enough sunlight for the seeds to germinate. Once they germinate and the plants sprout, you can transplant them to your containers.

Good Source For Tricks of the Trade - Home Repairs

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

One of the best sources for tricks of the trade home repairs that I have ever found, have been books on home repairs and remodeling. These books can often be a valuable source filled with amazing tips that can save you time and that ever so precious dollar or money.

If you really want to learn the valuable tricks of the trade, you're probably going to need to find a professional with the experience who is willing to teach you these valuable tips or tricks of the trade. Most of the time, the people who have the experience, aren't willing to share it with others.

I myself have learned plenty of these tricks of the trade from other professionals that I worked with, while we worked framing homes with other professional master carpenters. These master carpenters often were unwilling to teach me anything, but by befriending them, I learned more than I would have never learned at any university or school.

If you don't know anyone with the experience and most homeowners don't, we need to refer back to the books and some of these books are written by experienced master carpenters who understand the value of these tricks of the trade. Like myself, I rarely give them away, however I have written quite a few articles about them. Every once in a while, I let one loose and your reading one right now.

These books can be found at your local library or purchased at a community bookstore. They have been a wealth of information for myself and others for years now. If you really want to learn the tricks of the trade, quite a few of them can be found by reading home repair and remodeling books. If you look hard enough, you will usually find them.

Southern Home Floor Plans - The Subject of New Book

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

An important new book of Southern home floor plans has been published by the Southern Architecture Foundation. Southern Architecture Illustrated (ISBN: 0-932958-23-0) is a compendium of over two hundred and fifty photographs, which illustrate over a hundred residential designs and forty-two floor plans. This invaluable design volume was originally published by Harman Publishing Company of Atlanta in 1931. The original had a foreword written by Lewis Crook, A.I.A. from Atlanta; and it had an introduction written by Dwight Baum, A.I.A. of New York City. The selection of plans and illustrations of outstanding suburban and country homes in America's Southland was made by a committee of prominent local architects. The Southern Architecture Foundation's new slipcase publication of this landmark work is the S.A.F.'s second publication, the first being The Architecture of James Means - Georgia Classicist, which was issued in the fall of 2001. Southern Architecture Illustrated presents a heady look into an almost forgotten pre-Depression world. This architecture of Southern coastal vernacular home plans includes some of the ritziest early twentieth century suburban and country houses in the South. What makes the presentation so particularly appealing is the included floor plans - and also the shadowy, quaint, green sepia-type photographs with their chiaroscuro quality.

Although there are lots of porticoes, nonetheless the majority of plans represented are of modern-style homes - new yet classic - with the particular taste of the South in the antique; in fine fabrics, prints, and painting; in fine landscaping with every Southern hospitality in mind, awaiting the stylish party guests to arrive. These plans featured Southern cottage house plans morning rooms, sleeping porches, and drawing rooms which were decorated by exclusive firms such as Porter and Porter - Interiors - of Atlanta's Peachtree Street; and of James Blauvelt of New York City.

The genesis of Southern Architecture Illustrated lies in a magazine called Southern Architect and Building News, which originated in different format in 1882, and then began regular publication in 1889 in Atlanta under the directorship of distinguished architect Thomas Morgan (1857-1940) of Atlanta. The Harman Publishing Company took over publication of the magazine in 1910, and Henry Harman (1856 - 1926) became the publisher of the magazine. The original edition of Southern Architecture Illustrated is dedicated to Henry Harman. His son Harry Jr. became the business manager of the magazine. Later on Ernest Denmark (1899 - 1980) who started as an employee of this publishing concern while still in is twenties, went on to become the last editor of the magazine until it ended. It was Denmark who edited Southern Architecture Illustrated even though his name does not appear in the book. The Harman Publishing Company defined "The South" to include the old Confederacy of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas and Virgina; as well as the border states Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, Oklahoma, and District of Columbia. Thirty-eight of the illustrated houses are in Georgia; another sixteen are in Tennessee; there are seven each from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Missouri; there are six each from Alabama, Texas, and Virginia; three are from Florida; two are from Oklahoma; and there are one each from the rest of the states and D.C.

On the 276th page of Southern Architecture Illustrated appeared an advertisement for the Southern Architect and Building News which stated that it had been in continuous publication since 1882, and that it had the modest widespread circulation in the seventeen states of the South. Original copies can be viewed at Emory University, Charlotte Public Library, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Atlanta History Center. Originals of the magazine, which cost fifty cents each originally, now routinely sell for from ten to twenty dollars. The original print run was 5000 copies. Southern Architecture Illustrated cost five dollars when it was first published in 1931. It was to be part of a planned series of like books. However, the Depression finished the company and magazine off in 1932. Now, a clean copy of Southern Architecture Illustrated sells for over five hundred dollars. The present print run of 1000 copies has its own slip case, which faithfully mirrors the style of the original green-clothed cover which was embossed in gold.

Southern coastal vernacular home plans as exemplified in the republication of Southern Architecture Illustrated run all the way from humble southern cottage house plans up to plantation-manor style southern home floor plans.

Shibori Knits

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

The Art of Exquisite Felted Knits is an artistic exploration of the art and craft of incorporating shibori weaving techniques with knitting. Author Gina Wilde takes the reader on a transformational exploration where old myths about texture and finishing are abandoned and results in the reader reinterpreting their own creative responsibilities. Old stereotypes for color and content are abandoned as author and reader embark on parallel journeys of discovery of "new" techniques and combinations of wool, color, and creative uniqueness.

A clear-cut, easy to follow resource guide for the serious as well as the more casual knitter this work guides the reader through the maze of felting and non-felting fibers. The techniques and directions covered help readers to develop an awareness of their own knitting preferences as well as to enable them to navigate their own interpretations of patterns and fibers with confidence and grace. This inspiring book gives unparalleled insight into the intricate challenges of fusing fabrics through felting and expands the possibility to create new combinations of felting and non-felting fibers.

Influenced by her physical environment as well as by her own professional experiences weaving and sculpting, Wilde has applied her artistic skills in new ways to create sophisticated, intricate knitted designs. Facing the monumental task of fusing her love of color, texture, and nature Wilde wanted to create designs that were transformational and innovative. She slogged through the process without the benefit of any guidebooks or resources learning through trial and error and even accident to mix colors and fibers.

As she went through the process she began creating combinations and permutations that resulted in innovative designs that resembled works of art rather than embellished knitwear. As she went through the methods over and over Wilde knew there had to be a way to share these techniques with others outside her own close circle of creative friends and staff. She refined her processes and began to create more checklists to help her and others with the herculean task of designing manageable patterns for others to follow.

Soon she had a straightforward, well developed plan for each shibori knit design. Based on her more than 200 previous designs and her vast experience at fusing textures and color, Wilde methodically approached each design included in this book.

Shibori Knits provides a sensation laden introduction to this ancient Japanese artistic philosophy of color and texture. Wilde's own flirtatiously sophisticated personality shines through in each interpretive design making this book sparkle and stand out from the many other knitting books on the market today. Versatile, sophisticated, and unique, each pattern will provide the knitter with an unforgettable garment and a truly personal creative experience. This book sets a new standard for process and design books in knitting resulting in a positive transformation for future audiences. Wilde's Shibori Knits - The Art of Exquisite Felted Knits is more than a knitters 'how to' book; it is a deeply satisfying experience of color, texture, and technique that brings a new depth of dimension to knitting design books.

What is more is that the companies that give them on hire also undertake a weekly maintenance of these. Periodic or weekly cleaning and restocking of the toilets are done by the companies for their clients.

No Time to Clean! How to Reduce & Prevent Cleaning the Professional Way by Don Aslett

Don Aslett is THE guru when it comes to cleaning. His books on cleaning, time management and "decluttering" are as enormously popular as they are entertaining and educational. (I also really like his books on other topics too). "No Time To Clean! How To Reduce & Prevent Cleaning The Professional Way" is Aslett's new approach to cleaning for a new day.

The book is written in Aslett's easy to read and entertaining style and is accompanied by the artwork many of his texts are know for. I personally find the style, layout, and artwork enhance the reading experience, but make no mistake about it; Aslett's books contain a lot of meat with that sizzle. His down home practical advice is right to the point.

This book on cleaning is just under 200 pages long and contains 10 chapters. They include:

Intro: No Time To Clean! Aslett knows you don't have time to clean, so he points out that he will show you how to prevent cleaning as well as other strategies to solve your "no time to clean" worries.

One: Modern Cleaning's Biggest Mystery: The Time to Do It. Three page chapter with the focus of if you are cleaning more than a couple of hours a week, you are cleaning too much or inefficiently. Quick motivation to get started now!

Two: Adjusting Our Standards and Schedules. If it isn't dirty, don't clean it. Among the great tips in this chapter include advice on how clean things really need to be and how to set standards rather than cleaning by charts or schedules.

Three: Cleaning on the Run. Aslett shares some "whys" regarding cleaning and some tips on doing things before they become bigger. You might also be surprised at what you can get done in a very short amount of time, and the chapter shows you how to clean faster and ways to make things stay clean longer.

Four: The Best Way of All to Cut Cleaning: Prevent It! This chapter is all about preventing those down-the-road problems. Aslett provides some great suggestions on how to do just that.

Five: Too Much = Too Much Time Cleaning. Aslett is known for getting rid of junk. This is a very short chapter because he focuses on this topic in several other books. "Clutter's Last Stand" and his other clutter books are great if you need more help with clutter.

Six: Do Your Housework With a Hammer. This is an interesting chapter on designing your house, or parts of it, to make it easier to clean.

Seven: Other Hands That Can Help. If you are going to hire others to help you clean, you will benefit from reading this chapter first. Aslett provides some good advice regarding getting others to help with your cleaning needs.

Eight: The Big One: Getting Kids to Help Clean. Aslett suggests this might be the most important topic in the book. Besides the help you get cleaning your home, it will help young people late in life. He has some very good suggestions for getting kids to help out.

Nine: Quick Cleaning Room by Room. Tips and strategies for cleaning every room in the house as well as the garage and outside. Just implementing some of these would make a big difference.

Ten: Quick Cleaning Guide. This "guide" is 68 pages long and covers a ton of professional cleaning tips from dusting to pet messes. If you want to clean like the professionals and get more done in less time, Aslett shows you how.

Face it, cleaning is a big pain. It's one of the necessary evils. We have to do it, but none of us really enjoy it. (well... maybe a few do...) Cleaning is not a topic that you leisurely read about either. So pick up this book, read it (it won't take long) and implement the advice so you can clean more in less time and then get on with the better things in your life, after all that's what living is about. Highly recommend if you want to clean faster, better, and cheaper.
